This was a time when sailors exploring distant continents and discovered many species of tropical plants which they brought back to be cultivated in botanical gardens such as Kew Gardens and Chelsea. This EcoShow is about Thomas Fairchild, who, together with his young apprentices cross-pollinated a Carnation and Sweet William to produce a ‘Mule’!
